Shafay ‘distances’ himself from Salik

LAHORE: Punjab Commerce and Investment Minister Shafay Hussain has apparently distanced himself from his younger brother Salik Hussain, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis who levelled corruption allegations against the provincial government of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz a few days ago. Shafay’s unequivocal support for Maryam has reportedly saved his position in the Punjab cabinet. “Shafay Hussain’s recent interviews have been supportive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, so we have no plan to denotify him from the Punjab cabinet,” Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari told Dawn on Wednesday when asked whether the provincial government was considering removing him following his younger brother’s outburst against the chief minister. “Shafay Hussain has rejected Salik’s allegations,” she added. The PML-Q has only one minister in the Punjab cabinet — Shafay Hussain. On Tuesday, Ms Nawaz served a Rs5 billion defamation notice on Salik over his corruption allegations against her government, demanding that he retract his remarks. Salik said on Wednesday that he would respond to the notice. Azma says no plan to denotify elder brother The controversy also drew in former Punjab

An official statement said the ECC approved three summaries submitted by the Defence Division. The first summary pertained to supplementary grants of Rs54bn under three different heads of the Defence Services project. These included over Rs31bn for the Special Security Divisions of North and South (SSD-N and SSD-S), Rs11.88bn for various Pakistan Navy projects and Rs10bn for internal security duties and allowances. The second summary approved Rs1.094bn for the induction of a luxury executive jet (Lineage L-1000 aircraft) into the army fleet, while the third allocated Rs29.139bn for Project Istaqlal. “The approvals are aimed at meeting essential operational requirements and supporting national secur
